Physics - the science that brings humans closer to the world
To put it simply, physics is a part of science that tries to bring humans closer to the world in a scientific, experimental way. The roots of the name of science can be traced back to ancient Greece – it was there where thinkers mentioned the philosophy of nature (physis-nature, nature; physikos-nature).
Physics - the field of interest
Physics deals with physical concepts from the outset, so what is behind it? All physical bodies such as humans, buildings or cars, as well as substances (both solid and volatile) like air, vinegar, water or plastic. In addition, it names and explains the action mechanisms of physical, chemical and biological phenomena.
As with every empirical science (i.e., experimental, measurable), physics also has some specific ‘language’, thanks to which it describes what it deals with. All characteristics of bodies or phenomena that can be measured are referred to as physical quantities and are expressed in units. This mathematical notation of time allows you to read what time, distance, acceleration or mass is. This is exactly how every scientist or amateur physicist in the world can communicate with each other.
Physics - a science that loves symbols and numbers
Only at first sight does physics appear to be a very complicated science. In fact, it systematises everything. It measures either directly, as soon as an event or phenomenon occurs (mass, time) or indirectly (power, surface area). To keep everything in its exact place; with extreme care, each physical quantity has its own basic unit, as well as derivatives.
The everyday dimension of science: what does a person need the knowledge gained in physics lessons for?
As mentioned many times before, this branch of science is entirely based on numbers, measurements and things that can be seen or measured. This, however, on the contrary, does not mean that a set of tasks is enough for us! As one of very few things, physics still makes the world full of mysteries awaiting discovery! So, let's observe, explore, measure, try to trace the whole volume of creation, change and experiment!
Through physical knowledge, we get to know and try to better understand all the elements that exist on Earth, as well as understand the mechanisms of their occurrence. Note how important they are for human existence – were it not for fire, humans would still be living in a cave. And now, understanding the whole mechanism of making a spark, even if one finds themself in a difficult situation, they will survive because they will make be able to make a fire. By watching the clouds, they will protect themself and the household from the effects of a violent storm.
Were it not for the meticulous work of physicists in the past and today, human life would have been endangered on more than one occasion. It is enough to mention large structures such as bridges or skyscrapers and their deviation from the vertical during storms or hurricanes. Thanks to numerous experiments, we can safely play in playgrounds, in amusement parks or admire light illusions on buildings in urban areas.
